How to Use these Pages Dear Site Visitor, at our advisory site you will find thecomprehensive program, but ever changing program that we have had at Twin Valley High School for the past three years. As the program continues to develop, we see increased attendance at college meetings by upper classmen, a stronger connection between students and faculty and a sense of "advisory" throughout the building. The meat of the program is listed on the link TVHS Advisory Program located at http://www.bbrodie.com/html/TVHSadvisory/advisoryprogram.html .The page has an array of anchors listed at the beginning of the page that will take you right to the section you need. The final anchor on that page is a calendar (might have to scroll a bit depending on your browser) which is used as a basis for our advisory rubric. Additionally at http://www.bbrodie.com/html/TVHSadvisory/highschooladvisory.html, there are an array of other pages that cover scripts, our mission statement activity, goal setting description, building resources etc. There is also our FES student survey which tracks our Vermont Scholars' attitudes toward learning. If you have any questions about our program, are interested in a high school advisory workshop, or have suggestions about additions, please feel free to contact me at bbrodie@sover.net . Advisory and FES : As we look at our FES annual goals, we find that so much of what we do with FES happens during advisory. Goal Setting : Our goal setting happens during advisory and the advisor is required to check in with students on their progress throughout the year. The goal setting description and sheet are located at http://www.bbrodie.com/html/TVHSadvisory/goalsetting.html Service Learning : Our school has just adopted a service learning requirement for graduation. The description of the requirement and the verification forms are links located on the main advisory page. Advisors are required to check in on their advisees progress on their service learning projects, their verification forms live in their folders, and many advisories have specific share days when student can share about their service learning experiences. Early College Awareness : It is through the advisory program that students participate in the surveys that track their attitudes toward learning, and their interest in post-high school education. Advisors have grade level responsibilities to share with their advisees important information about preparing for post-high school education. Families as partners : A cornerstone of the advisory program is that advisors contact parents twice a year about advisory and to keep lines of communication open. Advisors are expected to attend special education meetings and any discipline or EST meetings. This year, students are being asked to review their goals with their parents and document that as well in their advisory folders. There are several scripts and activities that are special pages located on the main page that are community builders and help the advisor and advisees to get to know one another. A key to advisory is having a wide range of activities and weekly student input to your program.
