TWIN VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL
OUTSTANDING INDIVIDUAL ACHIEVEMENT RECOGNITION

Different individuals have different talents. Some excel at mathematics, some at painting. Some are outstanding at interpreting poetry, some at creating healthy and delicious desserts. A school cannot demand or expect that every student will master advanced physics in the same way that a school cannot demand or expect that every student master the alto saxophone.

A school, however, can ask every student to make a concerted effort to do their best in each class. It is the intent of Twin Valley High School to encourage, support and recognize those students who consistently

*demonstrate initiative and effort in their classes
*achieve to an appropriate level in their classes
*complete their assigned work to an appropriate, satisfactory level
*meet these objectives in each of their classes

ADVISORY ACTIVITY

During the first month of school we will be developing a formal process to recognize those students who meet the above expectation. Part of this process involves the development of specific indicators that students and teachers can use as guidelines for success.

Student input on these processes is critical. To attain this input each advisory is expected to discuss this program and to develop suggested indicators that will serve the dual purpose of a) providing students with clear guidelines on how to meet this expectation and b) provide teachers with clear guidelines on how to determine whether or not a student has met these expectations.

Each advisory should have its suggested indicators prepared no later than Monday, September 17. The advisory should also select one member of the advisory who will be willing to meet with other students to prepare a school-wide set of indicators. These students may be, but do not have to be, advisory council representatives.

It is left to each advisor to determine the specific process for completing this work. It seems appropriate, though, that it should take at least two to three sessions.
