Senior Citizens Luncheon
General Schedule for Senior Citizen Luncheon and Responsibilities
Door Holders :Seniors usually arrive between 12:00 and
12:20, but there are some early
birds who arrive a s early as 11:45, that’s why the door holders
should be
there early. In winter they may need to help them across the ice if there
is
any. Remind them they should hold the exterior doors (triple doors) and
the
library door.
Schmoozers - this is the best part of the experience.
Have the kids sit with
the seniors in the library and just talk about an array of topics...sports
(they always want to know what’s going on), what other kinds of
activities
students do, have students ask about if they attended school in this
area...What was that like ? etc.
Cafeteria runner : can check with Pam what the meal will
be and report to
the folks in the library. Also should be checking with Pam about the
time...when they will need to come down. There are occasional variations
on
the meal, so you may need to adjust.
ALL: When walking down to the cafeteria, some seniors
may need an “arm” or just
walk with them to help catch them if they need it, especially in the winter
when the floors might be slick.
Coffee people : Pam will have a tray set up...One can
hold the tray, one can
pour and the third can go for tea if necessary.
Tray carriers : Some folks that can walk to the cafeteria
fine, might have
difficulties carrying a tray to the table. Students should stand by the
pay
area and ask if they can carry their trays.
Tray clearers : Don’t steal trays away when they
are still eating their
food, but if it’s been sitting there for a bit with no eating, ask
if they
would like you to take their tray. They will tell you if they’re
not
finished.
ALL - should sit with the seniors. This is why they come...not
to see our
beautiful building.

all walk down to the cafeteria @ 12:35 ish (check with Pam to be sure
on
time) once everyone is finished with their jobs, they sit with the senior
citizens spread out among the tables.
