Advanced Spanish Program

.......Advanced Spanish is based on a two year looping curriculum which reviews and expands on grammatical concepts learned in Spanish I, II, and III. The course is taught completely in Spanish.The course introduces Spanish literature and culture with a strong emphasis on communicative competencies integrated with grammatical review. Readings and discussions about culture and literature are an integral part of the curriculum. Students will study ethnic roles, schools, and governments in Spain and Latin America. They will learn about the geography of the Spanish speaking world and the influence of the Latino world in the United States, and the most important artists of the Spanish speaking world. Students will complete new vocabulary units on health and the body, education, business Spanish, the car, Spanish for traveling and will learn the skill of writing appropriate business letters as well. Literary works covered include, an adventure novel La Gitanilla and Don Quijote, and assorted fairy tales. Essays and critical pieces will all be written in Spanish to further enhance student's writing abilities. Advanced verb tenses and pronoun construction are reviewed and new grammatical information is presented. A Portfolio which documents the student's ability to read, write speak and orally comprehend Spanish is required for the completion of this class.
