Introduction to Language Class Description

Introduction to Language is designed to heighten the awareness of students about our language and how it relates to language and cultural concepts. The class is team taught by Karen Molina and Beth Brodie and meets three times a week throughout the first trimester only. During the first month of the class the sixth graders work on the general concepts of languages such as non-verbal language of gestures, the major language families, and the grammatical structure of languages. Culturally, students work on a project on one of their countries of origin, study holidays around the world, and religions of the world. In the final 4 weeks, students participate in three classes each of French, Spanish, German, and Japanese.
