I. Decide on topics and when you will implement
them.
II. Make contact with administrators, students,
parents.
III. As individual papers come in throughout
the year :
A. First draft - Indicate necessary corrections/use rubric
if possible.
B. Second draft - Should be passed in w/1st draft correct
and graded using a rubric...or ask for third draft.
c. Final draft - This is the cllean copy - It goes into the
portfolio with all drafts.
IV. Have students put work into a file for their portfolio
(in your room if possible) when work is passed back.
This is critical if you want to be sure they have the work
at the end of the year. These folders are also great at parent
conference time.
V. Plan 2 weeks in late April for putting
the portfolio together (get dibs on the computer room)and
be sure to plan enough time for student self-evaluation, peer
& parent review.
VI. Early May - Collect portfolios...stagger
collection dates (or you will stagger !!)
VII. GET TIME TO EVALUATE...ask for a professional
day or use inservice time in May...When you evaluate the portfolio,
evaluate their ability to present their growth throughout
the year. You have already evaluated the specific pieces.
VIII. Find a way to share with the community...Academic
fair, in the library, wherever possible.
